Bread of Life ART

About
My paintings are visual poems of mysterious personages, often set in idyllic spaces; accented with an underlying sense of drama and playfulness. They invite the viewer to take a respite from modern life - I have no need to express modern culture or issues - popular culture is obsessed within its own depravity and shallowness already. I need the story and symbolism for myself so I can create something unique and heartfelt.
I have painted all my life -
I prefer working on large format canvas and wood, and my favorite medium is oil and collage. I always work on an underlying sketch. I blend flat design and rendering, my technique can be described our as decorative realism.Painting is combined with collage textiles and combinations of materials and new techniques. Printing, collage and construction (like sewing into the canvas) pushes the expression in the paintings forward. I love the smell and texture of paint and the physical pleasure of creating and working.
I create to bring honor to the ultimate creator. Whilst painting, I am reminded of a power outside of myself and that daily something sacred, rather than merely physical is at work. The word of God refreshes me continuously and gives me a daily reminder of the presence and the power of hope.
Painting is my key to 'the secret garden'. It keeps me grounded in what is real; it pulls away the curtain between this temporary existence and the spiritual eternity. My goal in my paintings and artwork is to express my joy in my Creator and Saviour Jesus Christ - to honor Him by being who He made me to be.
My inspirations are myth, nostalgia and spirituality. My work straddles a border between reality and dream, past and present.
The figures and faces are design elements themselves. I capture the emotion left behind when the context is removed - what's real? What's hidden? What's revealed?
Symbols I keep returning to are birds; who in my mindscape symbolize safety, blessing and purity.
Specific new bodies of work that I am working on are the Tudor-Iconoclasts, Rococo-Iconoclasts and my Whimsical Songbird-girls series.
